I'm transferring files between two dedicated servers both on high speed connections. I'm getting pretty slow transfer speeds considering how fast the connections are. I've gotten faster downloads when downloading at home.

The source server is running gene6 ftp. I'm using filezilla as the client. The speed is fluctuating but seems to be averaging at around 800kb. I've made sure in gene6 there are no speed limits and i also tried setting the speed limit to 10,000k - makes no difference.

Any ideas why i'm getting such slow transfer speeds?

Remove data older than X amount of days?

Is there a way to configure Gene6FTP to purge/remove data that has sitting on the server for a set amount of days? Also how would the application track this duration? I curious if the files must be uploaded from an FTP application in order for this function to recognized files that are to be removed? The thing is we have regular FTP users who use FTP client applications to access, upload and download. Then there are my staff who are network users and access the FTP folder share from the local network. I want all files to be considered for the removal of files existing over X amount of days.. files that were uploaded by FTP client users and files that were transferred over to the FTP network share by local network users. Is something that Gene6FTP is capable of doing?

I'm getting a 550 error on all user accounts to a specific share on my network. After doing some research I found it has something to do with not having the proper permissions on the share or folder. I haven't made any changes to permissions , this has been working for years and all of a sudden now this doesn't work.

What permissions is to affect this the permissions in Gene6FTP Server or permissions set at my server on the folder itself? I've tried resetting the permissions but my users are still not able to create a folder or upload documents, they can only download.

425 Cannot open data connection.

Hello,

I have a littl strange issue. At least I believe it is strange. I run Gene6 FTP server on Windows Server 2003.
The FTP server is running behind a firewall which does NAT the public IP of the server to its private IP. If a user connects from the outside world to the FTP server
using a FTP client like CuteFTP then everything works just fine.
But if a client uses for example the Windows XP ftp command then he\she is able to connect and authenticate but as soon he\she runs the ls command for example then he\she
sees the following error message;

"425 Cannot open data connection."

Please see output below:
========================================
U:\>ftp ftp.domain.com
Connected to ftp.domain.com.
220 FTP Server ready...
User (ftp.domain.com:(none)): user1
331 Password required for user1.
Password:
230 User user1logged in.
ftp> quote pasv
227 Entering Passive Mode (172,24,23,85,255,255)
ftp> ls
200 Port command successful.
425 Cannot open data connection.
ftp>
========================================

I had a look into the firewall logs and the FTP server is actually trying to connect on port 4015 and above back to the client. The port number is changing dynamically.
I have configured the server to allow PASSIV mode only connections and port the FTP server should pass back to the client is 65535. Not 4000.

And again - with a FTP client the issue does not exist.

Does anybody has an idea how I can fix that issue without opening the firewall?

Thank you
Marcus
